DDR3 reaches a data transfer rate of 8 bits per clock cycle. This enables read and write data with a speed of up to 1600MHz compared to a maximum of 800MHz in DDR2. Voltage requirements for DDR3 are greatly reduced from that of DDR2; down to 1.5 volts. This translates into a lot less power needed to read and write for the memory.

DDR3 is available in FBGA package that not only saves space in the system but enables fine signal integrity.
